Haemon’s moral dilemma was whether he should follow his father’s ruling or go along with Antigone. He tries to show his father that everyone in the city, not just him, Antigone, and Ismene, thinks that Polynieces should’ve been allowed.
I think one of the characters in the play Antigone that is suffering from a huge moral dilemma is King Creon. Originally here he is creating a law not allowing the burial of Polyneices. He thinks that everyone will obey him because he the king, and that he is being fair. Little does Creon know that pretty much everybody in the town disagrees with him. When he finds out that his niece Antigone has gone and given him a burial he completely loses it. He decides to sentence Antigone to death by stoning. Though to Creon this seems like a job well done, he discovers that the people he leads don’t agree, but they are too scared to say it. And one of the people who dare tell him this is his own son, who now vows to never see his father again. So King Creon’s moral dilemma is does he sentence Antigone to death (like he originally planned) and have his whole city against him, or choose to spare her life and gain loyalty back from his people. This is a big decision because ultimately it is the leader’s choice, but shouldn’t he also be looking out for the wants and needs of his citizens?
I think one characters moral dilemma is Haemon’s. Even though he is standing by what he and the whole kingdom believes, it is still hard because he is going against his father, the person he most looked up to. Now he has sworn never to see his father again and who knows what he will do from there. I think he will decide to go up against his father with an army of some sort, it would probably be the best decision if he stays for his beliefs.
In the book of Antigone, there are many moral delimmas. Most of them (to me) seem to be centered around Creon. One of the few, is that very early in the book he sets a law aginst burying his dead son. And when his own daughter goes aginst him to bury her brother, now he could either change the law or suffer through not having his beloved daughter, he still decides to press on whith the law, thus punishing Antigone by putting her in a tomb to die of hunger instead of his own hand. Towards the end though another importent delimma comes, his son declares that he will denounce him and they will never see each other agin if he continues on his path. He still!, decides to keep his law, and is faced with the suicide of his son, and the eventual suicide of his wife as well.

Creon the king of Thebes has been dealt with a serious moral dilemma. He has to decide whether he will follow his strict laws and kill Antigone even though the entire city disagrees with him behind his back. Or spare her life and try to gain respect and joy from the city. Both of these decisions could have serious consequences. What I think he will do is decide to kill her. But not the way his law described. He will go against his own law and hide her in the cave and let her starve. The problem with this is that I believe that this act will infuriate the city and cause the people of Thebes rebel against him and his empire.
Haemon’s moral dilemma is whether to obey his father’s law even though he thinks it is a horrible act of evil, or to try to change his father for the better, at the risk of alienating him. If he changes his father, he will also be able to save the life of his fiancee.
Haemon decided to try to change his father. When this failed, he left the palace in defiance, promising never to see his father again.
I think he made the right choice because he is trying to save everyone. He wants to save his father from being hated and punished, and he wants to save his fiancee from being killed.
Creon’s moral dilemma was to let Antigone live but live in a cave with little amounts food until she died. This was a good decision because now the people of Thebes would be both less scared of him and respect him more for not killing the girl.
Ismene
What is the dilemma? Ismene’s sister Antigone is sentenced to die in a cave. Ismene would risk anything for her sister, even her life. She must decide between having her sister die while she lives, or going against the law and being with her sister.
What has she decided to do or what do you think they will decide? Ismene hasn’t made a decision yet, but I do not think she will choose to let her sister die.
Is this the right decision? Why? I feel like there is no right or wrong decision in this case. If she chooses to let Ismene die, she could have that on her conscience for the rest of her life. Family means a lot to Ismene and Antigone is her last living family member.
Haemon’s moral dilemma is to choose whether to be loyal to his father and agree upon his father’s law out of his respect for Creon, eventhough he knows that not everybody agrees with his father’s law, and the people think that Antigone’s punishment is unjust, or to choose whether to disagree with his father, and side with the people and Antigone, so that in doing so he can make his father realize that his law is wrong, Antigone’s punishment is wrong, and that his father should be more open to the voices of the people of Thebes instead of always being proud.
What Haemon decided to do was that after beating around the bush in his discussion of his father’s law with his father, he decided to blatantly tell his father that he and the people of Thebes believed that his law was wrong and that Antigone did not deserve her punishment for she was obeying the gods’ rules. Haemon also decided after his father insulted him, and still said that he would kill Antigone to tell his father that his father would never see him again. What I think this decision means is that either Haemon will decide to kill himself, or that he will decide to distance himself away from Creon.
I think that Haemon made the right decision because he chose to stand up to his father by representing the voices of the people of Thebes, supporting Antigone’s actions by jutifying them according to the gods’ laws, and honoring laws of the gods’ by directly telling his father that his decree was direspectful to the gods’ and that he should take the advice of burying Polyneices and freeing Antigone from her condemnation.
The character I chose is Ismene. I believe that Ismene faces many different moral dilemmas. One is whether to live on without her sister there. This is a moral dilemma because she knows that her sister is going to die and her sister is the only thing that she has left and without her there nothing for her to love. I think Ismene has two choices, one is to kill herself so she can be with her sister and the other is to live on, but miserably. She has already tried to die with her sister by saying that she helped Antigone with burying her brother. She wanted to die with her sister, but her sister told her that she should live on, but she does not want to be alone in this world. I think that she will want to die without her sister and that she will try and possibly succeed in killing herself. I don’t think that this would be a good decision because she could still find someone to love and have a family with. But she might feel like it is the only way that she will ever be loved. It will also hide her from the shame of all of her family.
